July 17, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM Witness the transformation from space to place as the first of three installations are built at proxy, in the heart of Hayes Valley. Join Andy Vogt, a sculptor working with wood in creating an interactive sculptural environment using salvaged material. Andy will explore ideas of transparency, mass, and impermanence as part of the temporary nature of our pop-up museum and the proxy development. Using reclaimed wood culled from demolition sites around them City, the installation will provoke visitors to consider our cultural view of materials as disposable and to see value in re‐imagining how we perceive our material world. The Museum of Craft and Design invited San Francisco artists to conceptualize installations considering the themes of transparency, light, and layering. To launch each installation, the artists will invite the public to be part of a collective making event, contributing to the installation and learning about the artist's creative process firsthand. Place Making will occur at MCD's Hayes Valley pop up location at the intersection of Hayes and Octavia.
