Defining unique modules and creating a welcoming interior is all about accepting that you no longer have walls. I really learned to appreciate the simplicity of one room, with numerous areas offering unique perspectives. In defining spaces I reversed the bed and the couch, breaking up the density along a single wall and offering varied views when reading in bed or collapsing after getting in. I chose pieces I really appreciated, removing the rust and reupholstering a chrome Le Corbusier chair I came across and putting together a glass rack to clear up my two cabinets. Lighting matters most to me so sheer curtains and task lights eliminated dark corners and I ran conduit for a kitchen pendant that already should have been there. In the end, finding a rent stabilized unit far outweighed the downsides of a pullman kitchen and separated changing alcove. My only complaint? A true couch would be nice. READ MORE »
