Even after we die, we keep adding to our carbon footprint. 90,000 tons of steel, 4 million acres of trees, and 750,000 gallons of formaldehyde are used in the funeral industry each year. For a more sustainable solution, Katrina Spade started the Urban Death Project to turn the deceased into compost. She won a fellowship to build her first prototype in Seattle. READ MORE »
