Q: I have a couple of oldish chairs (that I love) with fabric upholstery, and a cat that loves to scratch the corners of the cushions, causing the fabric to fray.  I'm wondering if I could try adding leather patches to the corners of the cushions (like the leather elbow patches on tweed coats, stereotypically worn by professors). Is this a reasonable idea? The alternatives are to live with the frayed corners, to totally reupholster with a less fun-to-scratch surface material, or to get rid of the chairs completely.
