The headline is a quote from one of my favorite Christmas movies.  And since it feels like Christmas right now and I just got a huge gift in the mail, I figured it was okay.

A while ago, I entered a contest on the superlative blog Grassroots Modern for a Parvez Taj piece of artwork and I won! They asked what your favorite new Parvez Taj piece was and why you liked it.  I chose the Casa Del Herrero because it reminded me of the Hispanic ceramic designs and palette of my childhood home in south Texas.  The piece I liked the most looked like this.

casa del herrero

And while I liked it, it wasn’t necessarily the one I wanted in my house.  I didn’t know if I’d won that one or something entirely different.  It was a total mystery until it showed up last week while I was out of town.

Also, I already had one Parvez Taj piece, which lives in our foyer, so it helped that I was a huge Parvez Taj fan.  Of course, the piece in the entry way wasn’t an original, but was a numbered and signed UV print and good enough for me.  At the time.

But now, I don’t know.  I finally received my prize, an original Parvez Taj piece and now that I have an original, I may never be able to go back.  The piece is called Tangier and is printed on reclaimed Douglas Fir.  It’s dense and heavy and I honestly couldn’t love it more.  I would embrace it if that wouldn’t seem too weird.  It belongs in this house.  The colors are warm and reminiscent of the earthy tones in the house with greens and browns and oranges.  I can see it now hung above Taylor (who shipped yesterday…yippee!) in a lovely juxtaposition of super sleek and rough texture.  (Kind of like me.  Right?  Right?)

I can see the room coming together, in my mind at least.  I can’t wait to show it to you hanging in its new home.
