Reversing the wood-to-paper process, NewspaperWood is born of layers of newspapers, which, when rolled and sliced, expose patterning akin to that of wood rings. This experimental material has been used for a series of 5 cabinets, designed by Berg Hanssen and shown at the Milan Furniture Fair earlier this year, consisting of colored steel frames and planks of matching NewspaperWood.

Choosing colorways informed by the colors of specific newspapers—the Financial Times’ distinct salmon hue, for instance, makes an appearance in the series—was a smart move that caught the attention of (and garnered subsequent support from) the newspapers’ publishers. And that’s good news for Vij5.
