by Michael Sylvester In this series, Sebastian Mariscal designs a home in Venice, California, that brings the outside in. We track the project from start to finish with future resident Michael Sylvester. Part 2, November 2010: Designing a Home. For Dwell Home Venice I provided the designer of the home, Sebastian Mariscal, with a list of the spaces we desired, what tasks each room would be used for, and the general feeling we wanted each space to evoke. I will be living in the home with my girlfriend and we will also have extended-stay guests at the house when our family members visit from overseas. We wanted a living room that opens to a garden, deck or pool area for sunlight and views. The living room would be primarily used for conversation and reading. We wanted a separate media room for watching movies or making music and we wanted this space to be away from the living room. We requested three bedrooms with the master bedroom being in a separate area to the two guest bedrooms. We also asked for an outdoor dining area. These are just some of the example spaces on our list.
