British designer Tom Dixon, named by the Maison et Objet design fair as 2014 Designer of the Year, used the occasion to introduce a suite of limited-edition items designed and manufactured specifically to be sold at the event.

Dixon, for whom production, packaging, and distribution are integral to the design process, introduced The Factory, an onsite installation featuring real-time production and packaging of 4 fragrance-related accessories, along with a pop-up shop from which to purchase them.

The MUD collection of accessories—a collection of scent diffusers and a candle, comprised of simple geometric shapes—are said to be an homage of sorts to British manufacturing, and to the city of London, which is echoed in the objects themselves: each item is crafted primarily from London-made bricks, and emit fragrances meant to invoke the scent of the city.maison-et-objet-designer-of-the-year-tom-dixon-designboom-04maison-et-objet-designer-of-the-year-tom-dixon-designboom-05maison-et-objet-designer-of-the-year-tom-dixon-designboom-03
