Sea creatures and other things that dwell in the deep blue oceans aren’t a new trend; anyone familiar with Thomas Paul products knows that a good octopus graphic or two is pretty much required in a hip, modern space these days. But while we were at Las Vegas Market last week, we spotted a few trends, one of them being a softer, more subtle under-the-sea feel.
First of all, no sea shells in glass jars or gaudy-colored coral arrangements — those are out. What’s in is taking those motifs, making them modern, re-creating them in earthy, natural materials and using them to be stand-out accents in a room whose main thrust is not under the sea. Also cool is unique under-the-sea things. Sea monsters are always in, always.
