Contemporary Cirrus Ceiling Fan
The Modern Fan Company, as might gather from the name, specializes in modern and contemporary ceiling fans. They have a pretty good assortment of fans that look pretty good in almost any any decor, not just in an ultra-modern room.
One of my favorite models is the Cirrus Ceiling Fan, designed by American designer Ron Rezek. Rezek studied Industrial Design in the 1970′s at UCLA under professors like Charles Eames and Don Chadwick and is the founder of the Modern Fan Company. He was responsible for designing the first contemporary ceiling fan, the Stratos in 1986.
The Cirrus Ceiling Fan, like all nearly all contemporary ceiling fans, doesn’t use the old traditional style blade irons to hold the blades. The blades slot into the body of the fan and hides all the structure that attaches the blades to the rotor inside the body. The resulting stream-lined aesthetic is cleaner and more modern and helps to prevent the wobble associated with more traditional fan styles.
The Cirrus Ceiling Fan has a unique, bullet shape that is taller and more slender than other contemporary fans making it a good choice for a loft space or the higher ceilings that are so popular today. It can be mounted on a flat ceiling or on a sloped ceiling with an additional adapter.
Although the Cirrus model has been around for a while, it is now available with a number of blade and lighting options that makes it more usable than ever. While the original Cirrus Ceiling Fan was available only in brushed aluminum body with laminated plywood blades in aluminum, now you can get it in a clean, gloss white body with white blades that looks great in a minimalist home decor. Maple finish blades are also available for a more natural decor.
Blades come in either a 36″, 42″ or 52″ blade span with the larger spans being suitable for a more open space like a loft or a tall living room space and the smaller blade span working well in a kitchen, stairwell or smaller bedroom. The fan comes with a rounded, bullet shaped end that can be replaced with an optional light kit and provide illumination. Lighting options include an incandescent or fluorescent glass globe for general lighting or a nice, bright little halogen spot set into the bottom for more direct lighting. Both lighting options add a few inched to the overall length of the body but with its long narrow style the extra length doesn’t look inappropriate at all.
