By now most of us have heard about the news of the first ever Sergio Rodrigues retail shop that opened up last month. If not here is a little preview of the shop and the amazing pieces that will be offered. Sergio is widely considered the most iconic Brazilian furniture designer of the last century, and at 84 years old, this will be the first time that he has his own permanent retail shop carrying the full selection of his work that is in production. It is also the first time certain “re-editions” of his work will be sold, making his pieces more accessible to a wider audience.

“Sergio Rodrigues is considered the ʻfather of Brazilian furnitureʼ, and has been an inspiration to so many of the designers who we work with,” said ESPASSOʼs owner and curator Carlos Junqueira. “His furniture represents Brazil in many ways - relaxed, comfortable, sensual and humorous, yet sophisticated and contemporary. It is a privilege to be the first to showcase his work in a dedicated space, and through our re-editions, make many of his pieces available to a wider audience for the first time.”

Located inside ESPASSOʼs Tribeca gallery, the collection will feature many of Sergioʼs most well known pieces, including the Mole armchair, made of wood and upholstered leather cushions supported by leather straps, reflecting his playfulness and wit; the Diz chair, marked by organic undulating lines and a sculptural aesthetic; and the graceful Kilin chair, constructed of a single piece of leather on a wood frame. The range will include sofas, chairs, lighting, stools, and sideboards.
