The Table That Limits Its Own Production Run!

This cool modern table is part contemporary furniture piece, part artistic statement on mass production and handmade craftsmanship. The concept is pretty simple, the table is produced as a grid of concrete squares set together into a matrix. When the first table was made, a single square was removed from the tables matrix. Each subsequent table has the same square plus one additional square in the grid removed. The farther you get into the production run, the more squares are removed from the grid. In essence, this table will limit its own production number on its own when it can no longer be maintain its own integrity.

Table Will Self-DestructDesigned by Donna Piacenza and Jody Work for Studio 1 A.M. in Chicago Illinois, Table Will Self-Destruct has a very nice contemporary design. It is a low slung side table about 18″ square with room for magazines in the space formed by the smooth concrete surface. The heavy table is supported by a solid walnut base that sits unobtrusively below and is hardly noticed making the table almost look like it is floating.

Each table is stamped with an embossed label and numbered according to how many squares are removed. While the first few tables are fairly clean and simple, the design of the Table Will Self-Destruct will gradually get more complex over time. They plan on continuing the run until the shape of the table is no longer practical. But you can be sure that each table is absolutely unique and that no two table will look just alike.

This cool side table/work of art comes with either a white top or a dark grey top and it is limited to…well we don’t really know just how many of the Table Will Self-Destruct will be made before it, well…self-destructs. At the time I am writing they are on table 33. If you want to get one, they are available at the Yanko Design Store.
