Please join us in welcoming Victoria McGinley from  vmac+cheese  as one of our new contributors. We're so excited to have her! Take it away Victoria… I have a new obsession. Finding ridiculously beautiful, architecturally interesting staircase railings, then staring at them for hours on end and wishing I had a second floor in my home so that I'd have an excuse to create such a unique look. If you're a lover of modern lines that aren't boring (hand raised very high!), I can't think of a room detail that adds as much visual punch as a custom staircase. The fantastic thing about this particular room 'accessory' is that whether you live in a big space or small, as long as you have a second story, it's doable. You certainly can't be shy about making a statement when it comes to home design though -- unlike a simple piece of home decor , these staircases are big, visual art installations that you probably wouldn't be swapping out any time soon. Choose wisely! Which of these is your favorite? And if you were installing a custom staircase railing tomorrow, what kind of pattern, color, or material do you think you'd pick? Images: 1.
