Is a bathroom face-lift on your to-do/wish list? One way to get inspired for your next bathroom project is by looking at the latest bathroom design trends. Next to the kitchen, the bathroom is the most functional space in the home. Just because it's functional doesn't mean it can't be beautiful too!  From natural elements to LED lighting, here are the top five trends to inspire your next bathroom design: 1. LED Lighting Lighting is a crucial aspect of bathroom design as it sets the overall tone in your bathroom. Energy-efficient LED lighting is becoming more popular and affordable so it's easy to find fabulous bathroom LED lighting . LED lighting used to get a bad rap in interior design because of it's rather cool light. The color of LED bulbs has improved since then, and there are now options like "warm white" and "soft white" that give off a warm glow comparable to that of a traditional incandescent bulb.   A popular trend is using LED strip lighting to light the undersides of cabinets and bathroom vanity mirrors. Strip LED lights can also be used to highlight any interesting interior architecture in your bathroom. 2. Wet Room Showers The wet room shower is becoming a more common sight in bathroom design. A wet room shower doesn't have a threshold/shower tray so it blends seamlessly with the bathroom floor and creates a clean, modern look. The style is perfect for small bathrooms, which is why they are so popular in Europe where bathrooms are notoriously petite. Definitely get a pro to install a wet room shower for you - the design requires a gradient to channel the water into the drain, which is challenging to all but the most skilled DIYers. 3. Statement-Making Tiles Bathroom walls and floors present a great design opportunity that add another layer of visual interest to your bathroom design. Tiles with eye-catching designs look great in both large and small bathrooms. In smaller bathrooms or rooms with challenging layouts the floor tile adds style without overwhelming the space. 4. Chandeliers Chandeliers are popping up everywhere! They work in every other room in the house, so why not bathrooms? For a sophisticated (and perfectly lit) look, combine recessed lighting, a chandelier, and wall lights, like in the bathroom above.  Another trend is to use mini pendants on either side of a mirror to light your face instead of sconces. Install dimmer switches for each layer of light so the lighting can be adjusted depending on what you are doing. If you're putting on makeup or engaging in some other grooming ritual, you want as much light as possible, whereas if you are relaxing in the fabulous soaking tub above after a long day, you're going to want to create a different mood entirely.   All this would be impossible with all the lights stuck on the same level. 5. Draw Inspiration from Nature Bringing in some inspiration from the great outdoors helps warm up an environment full of hard surfaces. Things like tiles that resemble wood, natural stone, or wood vanities in a natural finish are all great ways to bring nature into your bathroom. In this environmentally conscious day and age it is becoming more and more popular to use sustainable materials like reclaimed wood as well.  A wood plank accent wall, like in the bathroom pictured above brings warmth to a modern bathroom with sleek, contemporary fixtures.
