The Big Chill Microwave Oven!

Big Chill, manufacturer of cool retro appliances with modern technology on the inside, recently introduced a hot new gizmo for your retro kitchen. Behold the throwback style of the Big Chill Microwave Oven.

Never mind that the microwave oven was introduced to the wary public in 1947 under the brand name “Radarange” and that it was about the size of a small refrigerator. Forget about the fact that early models cost about $1295. Disregard the fact that early microwaves were greeted with suspicion and  odd myths that persisted until the mid 1970s. I remember my grandmother making all of  us children leave the kitchen when she used her Radar Range because she was worried about radiation leaks.

Big Chill creates a powerful, technologically fantasy microwave oven that is way better than reality. Looking a bit like a vintage television perched on four tapered, mid-century style brushed steel legs, (or if you prefer, you can get it without legs) the Big Chill Microwave Oven comes in an assortment of super cool retro colors that match their existing conventional ovens and refrigerators.

Big Chill Microwave in Basic BlackAlso similar to their other retro kitchen appliances, the Big Chill Microwave Oven is packed with plenty of modern technology. With 1200 watts of power, this high-tech throwback is much more powerful than the original Radarange which boasted only a paltry 100 watts. The controls, identical to my own home microwave made by Sharp, feature sensor settings that automatically adjust the power and time to perfectly to cook anything. Mine makes perfect popcorn automatically with barely an unpoped kernel.

The large, 2.0 cubic foot interior houses a 16 inch carousel and is larger than many other microwave on the market so you can actually do more that just heat up coffee. It has three reheat modes, four defrost modes and a cool keep warm feature that will hold your food and keep it warm for up to a half hour. There is even a handy night-light on the top the control panel.

The Big Chill Microwave Oven goes for about $595 and is available in cool fashionable colors like Cherry Red, Beach Blue, Buttercup Yellow, Jadite Green and Pink Lemonade! Of course it also comes in basic Black and a modern minimalist White. Check out the Big Chill website for a dealer near you or to find a place that sells these cool retro kitchen appliances online.
