This being my first estate sale, I thought I would share my experience. The idea of going to an estate sale hasn’t really intrigued me based solely on other stories that I have read. The stories carried a mostly negative vibe that involved pushy over excited people. I do however search the word “estate” on Craigslist once in a while. I recently came across a posting with some serious eye candy in it. The sale was about 2 hours, 20 min away from me in a college town. I checked to see if the sale was listed in Seattle or Portland and it wasn’t. Based on the pictures I decided I better go. Click “READ MORE” to see what I walked away with.

I planned it so that I would arrive and hour early, getting up at 4am was hard enough. I arrived at the house to find I was the second person there. The gentleman before me was a really nice guy so we talked “shop”. He asked what I was after, I told him I would love the dinning set. He said that he was after the Hans Olsen chairs. I couldn’t help to think “maybe I have a chance here”. With about a Half hour until opening the guy that was running the sale came out to talk to us. After some small talk he asked if we were after any particular item. Me “The dining set” him “oh that has already been sold”. The guy in number one position said “the two chairs” guy running the sale “those are sold as well”. Disappointed and very irritated I figured that there would be some other good stuff inside.

I think the people running the sale got a little excited after selling the Finn Juhl set, they had this Halvorson/Jacobson credenza marked for 2,700, ya not so much.

In general the prices were pretty high. But I must say it was pleasant and most of the people were friendly. I was still fairly irritated about the bait and switch. I did find out that the Finn Juhl set sold for a mer 5k, lucky dog!

What did I walk away with? One pair of copper and green enamel cufflinks and the matching tie bar. Oh well!
