The Lautner Harpel House was the subject of a short film by NOWNESS. I have always been fond of their series titled “In Residence”. They are short films where the resident of a architecturally significant home talks about the home and how they interact with it. Since it was built in 1956, the design of architect John Lautner, an apprentice of the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, the building saw dramatic changes, including a second storey addition and other features deemed ill-fitting to its style. In 2006 Mark Haddawy took on the challenge of preforming a total restoration referring often to historical photographs. The house is truly remarkable and it makes me happy to think the house is as it was.
