This Japanese inspired mid century renovation is the work of David O’Brien Wagner with Jared Banks. “Originally designed by Ralph Rapson, FAIA (1914 – 2008), the owners required additional living space and book storage for their 1960’s era home. They requested a thoughtful integration of interior space with the surrounding Japanese garden and a sensitive approach to the original architecture.”. The Japanese garden adds a level of interest to this 60’s house and for me had a point of interest. The butterfly roof is my favorite architectural element on the structure. Normally I am not into weathered exteriors but the wood looks great here as it naturally changes with age. I would love to see more of the interiors but I also understand that maybe the owners wanted a little more privacy.
