Modern design for kids. When designing modern kids' rooms, you can use much of the same ideas you apply to the rest of your modern home. This bedroom above features a fun platform bed for the kiddo, but also incorporates color blocking with shades other than pink and purple. Everyone needs modern lighting , so be sure to include a small task lamp bedside.  Fun wallpaper works in any space, big or small. Bold patterns are fun in any space, for grown ups or kids. It's the pattern that makes the difference. Try something a little more playful than you would in the dining room, for example. You could also create a blank, white canvas and have your kid create the pattern... Then, pair it with a bold, modern area rug to offset the playful pattern. Mix up textures and patterns. Like any other space in the house, mixing textures and patterns  in modern kids' rooms is important for keeping a modern home warm. This kids room above also does a great job using all of its vertical space with colorful decor. When a room is small and you can can't work out... work up. "I'm looking for housing that is affordable, and modern. I know there must be innovative, well-designed housing out there. I just can't seem to find it!" —Tracey R., from the Dwell discussion board
