Simple side tables sometimes prove to be the most invaluable piece of furniture you can own. They hold your drinks when you’re sitting on a chair or couch. They are perfect receptacles for magazines, remotes and books that make you look smart and stylish. They’re great when it feels like that there’s a “certain something” in your space missing and they even pull double duty sometimes, acting like entryway perches and ideas we can’t even think of.

While the world offers no shortage of side tables, if you’re feeling in the DIY mood, we loved the one we spotted on Design*Sponge. It even has a sliding drawer. It was created by designer Silvia Song and more than just being a decent tutorial to follow to end up with a nice side table, it also seems like the perfect project for someone who’s always wanted to get into woodworking but didn’t know where to start. It’s certainly a pretty involved project, especially for someone who’s never wood-worked before, but there are definitely a lot of photos and instructions. Find it all on the original Design*Sponge post.
