les danseuse bothItalian lighting brand Artemide has introduced a new twirling pendant light that was inspired by the swirl of a flamenco dancer’s gown. Launched in Milan earlier this year, Les Danseuses, designed by Swiss design studio Atelier oï, made its North American debut during New York Design Week, via an exuberant installation at the brand’s Soho store. Les Danseuses, which Atelier oï describes as “a project that involves air and light, emotion and surprise,” lives up to its billing when a small engine mounted on the lamp’s vertical shaft is activated, putting the fabric shade into motion, gently rotating the vertical textile column into a horizontal flare that uncannily resembles a swirling dress. The fabric’s laser-cut design produces a diffused, romantic light while projecting decorative, animated patterns into its surroundings. Talk about a party light!
