It’s hard to believe that the new year is almost here, but as we know, time waits for no man. With a new year comes a new batch of trends to keep an eye out for, so we put together a list of 2016 trends that includes fresh looks in chandeliers, new color palettes, and the onward march of LED technology. A New Take on Chandelier Shapes The classic look of the chandelier, all arms and candelabra style lighting, has been transforming into more fresh and innovative shapes for a while now. The trending looks for 2016 break the old form in a variety of new, eye-catching ways. The Tango pendant from Corbett The orb-shaped chandelier design is based on an openwork round sphere of intersecting lines made from a variety of materials, including wood, wrought-iron, and finished metals. Lights are suspended within the orb frame and create an interesting visual interplay of light and form. Floating Bubble chandelier from Possini Euro Another hot chandelier style is the bubble chandelier . This style of chandelier is inspired by the look of cascading soap bubbles and uses bubble-shaped art glass globes to create airy and delicate designs. Many of the designs have a contemporary, retro-mod appeal with the glass shapes used to create attention-grabbing elongated forms. Sputnik-inspired chandelier from Possini Euro Sputnik style chandeliers also draw heavily on retro design. The Sputnik look is inspired by the look of the first earth-orbiting satellite, which was launched by the Soviet Union in the dawn of the Space Age in 1957. There are many riffs on the design, but the basic look has a center sphere or ball which is surrounded by multiple arms, each with a light at the end. It’s a fun look with a thoroughly modern glow about it. Popular finishes for this style of fixture include chrome and gold. The March of the LED Cityscape LED pendant High-tech, super energy-efficient LED lighting is no longer a trend that’s about to happen, it’s definitely here. What’s new is the innovative way LEDs are being incorporated into the design of light fixtures. Because LEDs are so small, they can be embedded into just about any form, shape or surface. Keep an eye out for more innovation and invention in the year ahead in all forms of LED lighting. Acrylic Abrosia tufted velvet bench Another 2016 trend we love seeing is  the clean and transparent look of acrylic in home furnishings. Designers are being inspired by iconic pieces such as Philippe Starck’s Louis Ghost chair, and are using the material for seating, accent and dining tables and more. A new twist on the trend is upholstered seating with acrylic legs, like accent chairs, benches and ottomans. Channel Quilting Christen Bard Midcentury style sofa This upholstered look made popular in the Art Deco period features wide panels of material separated by straight, evenly spaced lines that run only in one direction. It’s a popular look for seat and sofa backs, and is finding its way into other home textiles such as pillows. Get Colorful Color Plus Spencer table lamp in Dusk Blue Adding a little color to a space is one of the fastest ways to refresh tired room décor. All things blue continue to be hot. Tones range from California-inspired soft hues to deeper and richer European looks. And don’t forget one of Pantone’s colors of the year – Serenity , a light and relaxing shade of blue. Brass and Gold Possini Euro LED mini pendant in rose gold Metallic finishes like brass and gold started gaining popularity last year and will continue to trend into 2016. Brass in particular has made a strong comeback in home furnishings and lighting. The current look of brass is different from the brass of the past, with a warmer, softer appearance that some manufacturers are calling “vintage brass.” On-trend Gold has surpassed silver in popularity and, similar to brass, the look is softer and warmer than in the past. Both of these finishes pair beautifully with dark blues so you can combine the blue trend with the popular metallics. Which of these 2016 trends is your favorite?
