Mundane or Sublime?
The Motor Oil Vase is an interesting and amusing vase for your modern home decor by a creative design company called LEIF out of Brooklyn, New York. Designer Stacy Anne Longenecker is inspired by everything around her, thing that us meer mortals may not even notice in our daily life, to create fun and funky home decor items that will amuse and amaze.
The Motor Oil Vase is part of a series of oddly beautiful vases created out of every day household containers collected off of the streets of Holland. Containers like drinkable yogurt bottles, dish detergent bottles and lotion bottles. Each one has been cast in cool, creamy porcelain that is unglazed on the exterior to retain their natural coloration giving them a matte appearance. The interior is glazed to seal the porous nature of porcelain so the vase retains water.
The look achieved challenges our perceptions of what is beautiful and what is mundane and creates a vessel that has an odd appeal juxtaposed with the natural beauty if flowers. The Motor Oil Vase costs $38 and is available at the LEIF website along with the Lotion Bottle Vase ($26), the Dish Detergent Vase ($26) and the Yogurt Bottle Vase ($16) as well as other fun and funky home decor items that challenge you to thing beyond the conventional.
