Transformation occurs with the meeting of the minds.   The existing 960sqft one story post-war house located in a pleasant Burbank California neighborhood suffered from poor natural light, limited ventilation and a confined, inward looking architecture. Re-organizing the residence into a 1900 sq. ft two story contemporary structure successfully addressed all of these limitations.   During construction, the client, a successful actor, earned his contractor’s license, turning him from an architecture enthusiast into a builder.  The relationship between architect and client is invaluable for both.  “The success of a project for us is based on a successful collaboration with our clients.  This exceeded all of our expectations.” says Scott Strumwasser of Los Angeles based Enclosure Architects.

The home’s sweeping butterfly roof opens the home towards the sky and welcomes the outside. A combination of smooth plaster finish and wood siding provides distinction and an element of organic materials. Aluminum windows and exposed wood ceilings provide an aesthetic both pleasing and expressive of the simple yet elegant construction.

An open floor plan on the first floor facilitates a much larger feel to the house and large openings and no doors between the second floor master bath and the master bedroom continue this spacious feel.  Large sliding glass doors provide useful ventilation throughout the home.

Owner inspired range of color pallets on the interior and decorative accents,  play their part in making this residence updated and modern with a nod to the past.
