callahan-hayes-residence-living-room-1This isn’t the first time that a swing as gotten our attention (see here and here), but it may be the first time that a contemporary swing design has managed to hold its own alongside the exalted forms of Saarinen and Eames. Yet, in this barn-like New England home, designed by the Maine architect Christopher Campbell, the Little Bird Swing, manages to make a compelling design statement of its own. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, the plywood Little Bird Swing (identified by the bird silhouette on the side, and so named for “the migratory patterns of the lucky kids who use it”), has the kind of thoughtfully designed, playful sweetness that, we suspect, the Eameses would have wholly approved.
