What a stunning example of juxtaposition, I know some of you don’t like this in a modern home but I love it. Alex Michaelis built this house for himself in 2004 keeping the addition fairly low profile as it almost goes unseen from the street. We have seen some additions like this where they are actually attached but this one is a little different as the two structures share a common outdoor garden area.

The house is notable for its clever use of a sensitive site between period buildings. It is almost invisible from the street, hidden behind a 6ft boundary wall, the only clue to its existence being a wire sculpture on top of the mature sedum roof. There is a gate opening onto an off-street parking area, and a separate pedestrian gate leading to a ramp that winds down to the front door.
