Well...I've once again steered away from the plans...fairly drastically. The original plans called for wood (Ipe) on the front. Since I don't believe that using a slow growth tropical hardwood on a building remotely constitutes a viable  "green material" I decided to use Hardi. But the problem then became how to make Hardi look like something other than Hardi.

After discovering the front face of the house was anything  but straight, I came up with this pattern which is inspired by rough cut laid stone walls. These walls typically have varying depths and sizes. I translated that concept to the Hardi only my randomness turned out to be quite intentional using a formula I created for this application. I think it turned out a lot better than just having a flat front rain screen. Best part is that it will probably last the lifespan of the house as I had all pieces pre-finished then painted them again once they were up.

The image here shows the wall without the second coat of paint.

Completed wall...steel still needs painting.
