We featured the Electric Love ring by Grain last year, and since then, they have added a number of great projects to their portfolio. After checking them out at ICFF, I wanted to share some of their latest pieces.

Bound wall mirrors (above) are based on the duo’s 2010 hand mirror of the same name (below). Made of waterjet cut mirror, backed in laser cut bamboo and felt, each is hand-wrapped in hemp twine in Grain’s studio on Bainbridge Island. Available in 16” diameter and 24” diameter, each can be customized in a variety of color combinations.

A second mirror design, Hung, is inspired by rope-work techniques that designer Minola picked up while studying boat building in Maine. Hung is an oval shaped waterjet cut mirror threaded and hung by ½” thick manila rope that is woven back into itself to hold the mirror securely without any glue or fasteners.

Another new design is Spool, a patterned DIY modular system that can be assembled into a variety of freestanding structures. Made of upcycled thread spools removed from the Los Angeles apparel industry’s waste stream, Spool kits include 240 spools and 520 connectors to make anything from screens to table bases and dividers.
