Authenticity may be a coveted trait, but for opponents of taxidermy, preserved animal heads hold an inescapable queasiness—just how and why did the poor beast die, one can’t help but wonder. Kudos, then, to White Faux Taxidermy, “where nature meets design.” The Utah-based studio casts animal heads, from deer to elephant, lion to rhinoceros, in resin, and color customizes them to order—ensuring some striking, even intriguing, visual possibilities, but with none of the guilt and shame. Some fakes, we have to admit, are head-and-shoulders above the real thing.
