As we are learning from this series of posts about the comfort of modern furniture design, looks can be very deceiving. And, sometimes something that looks cool but looks like it would be uncomfortable is! But surely there is a happy medium? A point where comfort and aesthetics mingle for all eternity? You’ll have to read ahead to see if this comfy-looking chair is in fact comfortable, and just what Michael thought about it.

We may love modern furniture, but we definitely treasure comfort.
That’s why we enlisted the help of 2Modern friend and furniture maker Michael Yates. His background and expertise made him the perfect guy to rate chairs based on firmness, quality, comfort and ergonomics. This isn’t exactly science, but we’ll be bringing you a series of posts to tackle the very important question of looks versus comfort!

The Alywn Armchair by James UK. In Michael’s words: “WONDERFUL! My favorite chair of the show.”

Our ratings system, which we admit is based a lot on personal preference, gave the the Alywn Armchair 2 stars for firmness (perfect for snuggling in with a good book but not so soft you have to be peeled out of it), 5 star for touch (as pleasurable to touch as a newborn baby’s skin), 5 stars for construction (lest you confuse comfort for delicacy, this chair is sturdy) and 5 star for ergonomics (it wasn’t designed specifically for you, but it will almost feel like it was). Read more about it here.

What do you think about the Alywn Chair? Does it look as comfy as it does attractive? Do you think you would enjoy sitting in it? Let us know!
