I am sure we have all heard the phrase “The Method behind the Madness”. I am starting a new segment here on plastolux called “The Method Behind:”. Instead of just featuring someones work, we are going to get some of the madness behind their work. This is just the first, hopefully I can make this a weekly feature. Your feedback is much welcomed.
I discovered the work of Lucie Veilleux while clicking through images on Flickr. I haven’t really featured any jewelry makers on plastolux but when I saw Lucie’s wood cubes I just had to have a trio. They are such great little sculptures. Make sure to click “READ MORE” to learn more about Lucie.
Q: Who is?
My name is Lucie Veilleux, I live in Québec, a French province in Canada. I run the shop named “3dots” on Etsy but I am also a full time furniture maker.
Q: What is your background?
I studied Fine Arts in College which I really enjoyed. During these years I’ve been introduced to many materials and techniques and it helped me to develop and find my own style. While I was in school, I worked in a carpentry shop and I quite liked it, once I graduate college, I felt a bit lost and couldn’t imagine how to live from my Art so I decide to become a full time furniture maker. I’ve learned this job over the years. I must add that I and many of my family members are involved in the wood industry so I guess it’s in my veins! From a very young age I was introduced to this beautiful medium but i never expected it to become such an important part of my life.
Q: What inspires you?
I find a lot of inspiration in nature, I don’t really reproduce what I see but somehow what can be found out there is refreshing and mind opening. I get excited when I find a nice looking plant, leaf or flower, I like organic things. When you look at it closely each vegetable is a complex and very effective structure. I find it totally amazing and I think nobody beats mother nature that’s why I think we should all take good care of the beauty that surrounds us. I’m also inspired by retro/modern Art and design. I like to create minimalist and clean designs but I think the beauty of Art is that it evolves and there’s not limit to what can be done!
Q: What is your preferred material to work with?
Of course my favorite material to work with is wood. There are many reasons for that, first of all it’s a medium that I “understand”, I know how it reacts, I know it’s limits it’s qualities and weakness so it sure helps me to play with it. I also started to learn metal works some time ago and I really enjoy it. I mainly work with silver and I just love it! I hope to keep playing with it and who knows what will come next!
Q: My favorite______is________
My favorite fruit is raspberries. (hm, don’t know if that’s what you meant here…!
