Next time we’re in London, we’ll be sure to stop by Espelette, the French brasserie in the luxury hotel Connaught, just to have a look at their suite of art-inspired striped menus, designed by London studio Construct. Tasked with giving a visual identity to the restaurant’s day-long dining options, Construct looked to the American artist Sol LeWitt, who turned stripes into art world gold. “We created a rich, bold graphic palette using six special colors for each menu. We applied the graphic to all menu surfaces, playing with the change in direction of stripes when verticals meet horizontals.” The results are artful enough to frame—and awfully hard to resist walking away with.
