The collection, which is currently on display at the Matter NYC store, highlights new contemporary American design. There are two categories in the collection – the first is a hybrid of design and art and an experiment in materials. The second takes a look at more streamlined, commercial aspect of design.
Also, Matter has focused on the American aspect of the designs, making sure that the entire collection is produced domestically in the United States, with many items produced within a 100 mile radius of New York City.
Range Life by Jonah Takagi – I am in love with this table! The work takes its name from a song by the band Pavement off of their record “Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain,” and I hear more pieces are planned in this collection. I can’t wait!
I’m a huge Lindsey Adelman fan and her Ceres lights explore the intersection between the natural and the manmade. Made to look like branches of a tree, the glowing LED lights are connected with metal rods and joints.
Shed by Harry Allen is a storage cabinet that is reminiscent of the cedar shingles found on many houses in the Northeast US. Cedar is also a wood often used in closets to help preserve clothes and absorb moisture.
