If I plant two clumping bamboo plants (bambusa gracilis) can I ensure my well does not get encroached as well as a neighbor's yard?

1. If I plant two clumping bamboo plants (bambusa gracilis) 4 feet apart, will they still each spread four feet around, creating eventually an 8 foot screen? 2. Can I force the shape of the clump by putting in a retaining wall underground made of concrete. I want to ensure my well does not get encroached as well as a neighbor's yard!

Despite being a "clumping bamboo," Gracilis will spread and fill in over time. How quickly it will spread depends on your location.
