I have window fans in my attic windows, one bringing air in and one taking air out. Is this a good idea?

I didn't see this in the last responses on this topic. I have a 940 square foot house with a walk-up attic. I have a very small vet(not fan) on the east side of the roof. I also have a slider window on the south and north ends of the roof. The first couple of summers I left both windows open about 2 to 4 inches - this seemed to help a bit. The last 2 years I have had window fans in these windows one bringing air in and one taking air out. The attic is insulated well - the house was built in 1931. I was looking at putting an automatic attic fan in but after reading the latest on this blog I guess not. I guess what I need to know is if the way I have the fans set up in the windows is even a good idea. My house is a ranch and the lower level remains fairly cool with the ac set at 72 even in the hottest weather. If it helps I live in Springfield, Ohio

If you don't mind I think we need to clarify - what difference do you see or feel inside the house or is it just when you enter the attic?...
