The Concept of a Green Chamber of Commerce Makes A Lot Sense To Canadians, Which Is Why A Canadian Task Force Has Gathered With Support From The San Francisco Green Chamber To Bring The GCC To British Columbia

Encouraged by the success of our southern neighbours, a group of business leaders and owners, supported by a provincial trade association are gathering to create a space for business people to network in pursuit of opportunities within the community of persons and companies committed to building a sustainable economy.

Born from conversations between the Mechanical Contractors Association Executive Vice President Dana Taylor and Berkeley mechanical contractor David Kruse, himself a Green Chamber founder in the San Francisco Bay area, and SF Green Chamber of Commerce President Elena Christopoulos, a working group has been assembled to establish a local green chamber in British Columbia.

From this Steering Group a workshop is being planned for the early fall to which interested businesses will be invited to help develop and build a made in BC Green Chamber.  Initially the GCCBC will be a repository for ideas and information.  We plan to listen, learn and eventually conduct seminars, speaker presentations and networking events to attract an expanding array of innovators in the new economy of sustainability – an economy considerate of people, planet and profit.

“We have encountered an enthusiasm and commitment from our business community members that immediately recognized the possibilities of such an organization here in BC”, says organizer and founder Dana Taylor, “…and our goal is to nurture and support that interest.”  Persons interested in the GCCBC may follow our progress at www.greenchamberofcommercebc.org or contact Annie Siaw Pei Wong, Special Projects Coordinator – aspwong@greenchamberofcommercebc.org
