General Electric Power and Water is developing a new fabric-covered wind turbine blade which promises to cut the cost of wind turbine manufacture significantly, while also allowing a larger blade size, and facilitating easier transportation.

Illustrated is a section of a wind blade depicting a new manufacturing concept that would entail covering the blade with a tensioned fabric. This new approach could significantly reduce production costs and make wind more economical.
