What does the abacus, sun dial, briefcase cellular phone and energy saving light bulbs have in common? That is essentially the question that is answered in the latest campaign promoting Cree LED light bulbs. The answer? Well, at one time the above inventions were all considered to be ground-breaking and innovative. Are they still relevant though? When was the last time you saw someone keep track of the time by checking the sun dial in their back garden or town square? Eventually the hot and innovative are replace by new products.
This is the point that Cree are trying to get across. People are still being made to believe that the old-fashioned style of energy saving light bulbs is necessary and still relevant, which Cree believe is untrue. Cree feels as if manufacturers are doing it to try and convince people that they shouldn’t buy new Cree LED light bulbs, even though they are the next step forward in light bulb innovation.
The video did make me chuckle a little because the man who is speaking to the camera is acting very deadpan and quite sarcastic at times, even though it is set up like an old public service information video. So the fact that he mentions these ancient, and ridiculous by our standard, inventions – particularly the phone in a briefcase, makes you laugh while making a very valid point.
No-one walks down the street with their mobile or cell phone unit inside a briefcase anymore, and therefore we should not be using normal energy saving light bulbs. By the end of the video I too was ready to change all the bulbs in my house to Cree LEDs, it really is that persuasive.
