Shutting off the power strip

If I shut off the power to strip to TV and computer, do I risk it being affected by brown outage or lightening strikes if the surge protector is not on? I'm not techy at all, so maybe with that you can understand my concern. Thanks:)

In short no - you are still protected though if you are hit by a direct strike it could theoretically overload the strip. When you buy said surge strips they...
