Although a lot of people are focused on making sure they are earning enough money to pay the bills each month, many folks will also turn their attention to their gardens during their spare time away from work.

It’s a pretty well-known fact that gardening is a great way to help people lead a less-stressful life, and it also offers numerous health benefits too (i.e. you are outside breathing in fresh air and doing some exercise).

But some green-fingered people also want to lead an eco-friendly life at the same time. If you are one of those people, this blog post will teach you how to become a greener gardener (or should that be – an even-greener gardener), helping the environment and saving money at the same time!

Invest in a water butt

Our planet is mainly comprised of water, yet each and every one of us has to pay to use it! This is because it costs money to have water run through a desalination and cleaning process, and deliver it to our homes through a series of underground pumps and pipes.

Many people have a water meter installed at their homes, which means that they pay for their water based on their usage, as with electricity and natural gas. But did you know that there is a free way of obtaining water for use in our gardens?

Obviously, I am referring to rainwater (you didn’t think that I meant you should drive a tanker and steal some water from somewhere, did you?), and the best way of storing rainwater is to get a water butt – also known as a rainwater tank, depending on what part of the world you are from.

Time your watering right

All plants require water to survive, but if you water your plants in the middle of a hot summer’s day, the water will evaporate quickly and will not be very beneficial to your plants.

In order to ensure that your watering benefits your plants the most, and to save on any water charges you pay, it is highly recommended to water your plants either early in the morning or late in the evening, when the ambient temperature will be at its lowest and the sun won’t be shining brightly.

Use synthetic grass

Grass will usually grow in all sorts of conditions, but there are some cases where grass does not grow very well, despite one’s best attempts. If this sounds like your garden, I would recommend that you consider buying synthetic grass for it.

The thing about synthetic lawns in Perth is that they look pretty realistic and will always look great, whatever the weather! You also don’t need to worry about mowing your lawn, which means that you will save a lot of cash on electricity and equipment costs!

And, in case you were wondering, synthetic grass is safe for kids and pets to walk or lie down on.
