My natural gas furnace has a cogeneration unit attached. The generators all perform a weekly self-test for 20 minutes (for the one the contractor I spoke to suggested). This would seem to waste a fair amount of gas for something I would hopefully only need rarely. I am also concerned about the noise levels for myself and my neighbors. Are there any better solutions?

A Bloom Box. It is the latest technology out there and pretty amazing.
