Recycling and reusing commonly found goods that would otherwise be added to our growing waste facilities are the very fundamental concepts of green architecture. But what I find truly inspiring is when those products are maintained as their original self yet used in a new, eye-opening way. An artist that has a signature style which demonstrates this very concept is Choi Jeong Hwa.

An infatuation of mine in the design world occurs when concepts and ideas from multiple genres overlap. I don’t believe that art is separate from architecture or science or anything, I believe that what makes something truly amazing is its ability to speak to those that are experiencing it at every changing moment.

REDCAT's Truth

An artist that has a signature style which demonstrates this very concept is Choi Jeong Hwa.

He believes,

“Everything is art, art is for everyone and everyone is an artist.”

He was born in 1961 in Seoul, Korea and had his first solo exhibition in the United States in 2007 entitled REDCAT’s Truth. He uses re-claimed goods as his artwork.

In 2009 he was part of the LACMA’s ‘Your Bright Future: 12 Contemporary Artists from Korea’ exhibit. His display was entitled, “Happy Happy” and was made of plastic dishware and reclaimed plastic fencing. Along with his artwork he placed a plaque encouraging everyone to become part of his work by adding their own brightly colored plastic objects to the exhibit.
