Green Technology, also known as “Greentech”, refers to the technology that is used to keep the natural environment intact, and reverse or lessen the harmful effects of human activity on the environment. It involves a number of developmental materials and methods ranging from energy development in a safe and renewable manner to non-toxic and protected cleaning of materials. This technology has become an important part of the governments’ activities from around the world.
Green Technology in Different Fields of Science
According to Server Backup (click here), green technology encompasses many important developments, including developments in the field of energy generation, construction, environmentally friendly products, chemicals, and nanotechnology. In the field of energy, green technology has helped in the production of alternative sources of energy, and increasing the energy efficiency. Green technology ranges from the selection of environmentally friendly building materials to the proper location of buildings. Several countries have developed standards and rating systems for green buildings
In the search for environmentally friendly products that have the least possible negative influence on the environment, green technology has helped in the selection. In the field of green chemistry, it helps in the development of such chemical materials and processes which are able to decrease or remove the utilization or generation of toxic or hazardous substances. Green technology has also helped in the development of materials at nanometer scale, which translates into one billionth of a meter. This is known as Green nanotechnology and is the combination of green engineering and green chemistry. This field is one of the most important fields that will have a great impact on future projects.
According to Server Backup (click here), developments in green IT or computing are also among the other important outcomes of green technology. Several states and agencies are making continued efforts to implement the standards of green computing. In 2010, President Obama signed a bill, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), according to which $47 million was set for the improvement of energy efficiency of different data centers. Improvement of power supply chain and data center cooling techniques were also among the initiatives. With developments in technology, several optimizations such as algorithmic efficiency, proper resource allocation, and virtualization of computers helped in making further advancements in green technology.
Companies Related to Green Technology
According to the reports of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), companies are working hard to focus on “green” jobs, technologies, and businesses. However, smaller firms are found to have more green technology in their businesses than larger firms. Interestingly, citation of green patents from smaller companies is 2.5 times higher than larger companies. It has been noted that U.S. based companies and organizations have developed maximum percentage of the U.S. patents in green technologies from 2005 to 2009, coming in at an impressive 43 percent. Japanese organizations developed 32 percent of patents in green technologies during that time, whereas every other country had less than or equal to 6 percent of green patents. These stats are clearly showing that other countries would also start making developments in green patents in the near future.
