People often put off buying a new toilet. That’s understandable – it isn’t exactly the most glamourous or exciting of purchases – but there are several situations in which you should make replacing the throne into a priority. Here are just a few.
Leaks can go undetected for long periods, but will eventually cause water damage. This is especially serious if the toilet in question is upstairs. If yours is on the older side, it’s probably going to be more cost-effective in the long run to simply replace it altogether, instead of risking inflated monthly water bills and a damaged home.
It’s More Than 15 Years Old
The vintage look is just precious, but that doesn’t rule out the fact that dated fixtures were not commonly built for efficiency. Modern toilets must abide by guidelines which dictate how much water they use during each flush, but older ones had no such criteria to meet. Check your toilet’s age by lifting the lid and looking for a date stamp.
Sometimes the reason for getting rid of an older toilet isn’t based around anything as noble as saving water. If your toilet doesn’t match your current design scheme then it’s time to move on. You’ll have to replace it eventually, so there’s no better time to search the internet for a nice modern toilet which doesn’t stand out in the wrong ways. Just try going for neutral tones.
So, clearly a broken toilet can’t be ignored, but it’s often easier and ultimately cheaper to just replace it altogether. If a pricier component has been damaged – such as the flush handle or part of the interior mechanism – weigh the cost of repair against the cost of replacing, and then remember that this could just be the first part of many to go wrong. Better to replace once than repair again and again.
Even though buying a toilet isn’t the most thrilling activity, it’s not something you should put off when the situations listed above present themselves. Additionally, you really will be amazed at the impact which adding a new toilet has on your bathroom.
