How do I eliminate oil heat and rebuild my fireplaces so they will heat the whole house?

Hello Pros. I presently have a oil-fired heating system and two fireplaces built about 50 years ago. None of them heat my house sufficiently. Oil is too expencive and heat from fireplaces goes straight to a chimney.
