Greater building efficiency can meet 85 percent of future U.S. demand for energy, the U.S. Green Building Council says. Our focus here at Energy Priorities is on businesses who want to be more sustainable energy users. There is plenty of content on the schedule at Greenbuild 2010 on trends, economics, green marketing and, of course, energy.

Colin Powell to Keynote

The U.S. Green Building Council has publicly announced that former Secretary of State and retired Gen. Colin L. Powell will give the keynote address at the 2010 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo in Chicago.

Following his high-profile stints as Regan's National Security Advisor, Clinton's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Bush's Secretary of State, Powell has served as founding Chairman of America’s Promise Alliance, an organization that works with over 400 partner organizations to provide needed resources that build better lives for America’s youth.

As a sign of General Powell’s wide-ranging leadership and the powerful message he will bring as Greenbuild’s opening keynote speaker, a LEED Platinum affordable housing building in his childhood neighborhood bears his name.
