I'm getting very frustrated with my search for an eco-friendly recliner. Can you help?

I live in a very eco-friendly area, but I'm having trouble finding furniture that isn't full of all kinds of toxic chemicals. The few green furniture outlets I've found charge outrageous prices that I find insulting. Most furniture stores look at me like I'm nuts when I ask about the materials that go into their furniture. Please, do you have any advice? I'm willing to spend up to $2,000 for a recliner.

Dear Rex,

Your best bet may be finding a gently used model in a consignment shop, auction house, Craigslist, or a garage sale.

  • Have it refinished with a low-VOC finish, and
  • re-upholstered...
