Is there a "green" option in place of particle board for laminate countertops?

I am updating my kitchen (on a budget) and want to replace my outdated laminate countertops. I have 2 little children and I am concerned about the gassing and formeldyhyde components from laminated particle board.

I recommend you look into Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Oriented Strandboard (OSB) with no added urea-formaldehyde.
