As summer begins to wind down and the fall season is just around the corner, it is easy to feel disappointed and discouraged because you didn’t get to do everything you wanted to do this summer. There are only a few months of no school and sunshine each year that it seems impossible to make all the activities you want to do fit in those limited number of days.

Before you start wallowing in your back to school blues and begin packing up your summer clothes, there are some ways that you can still enjoy the last bits of summer without going on a long vacation or spending a lot of money. There are a few ways you can still enjoy what summer has to offer without going far from home. Here is how you can make the most of the last few weeks of summer from your backyard.

Start a short family project

You probably don’t have time to build a new deck or take on another big project that you wanted to do before summer is over, but you can still fit in a short weekend project with your family. Outdoor home improvement projects are a great way for your family to spend time together and improve your home inexpensively. Find a project that the whole family can enjoy working on, like refurbishing your lawn furniture or adding a swing to your yard.

Host an outdoor movie night

You can have an indoor movie night any day of the year, so why not change things up while the weather is still nice and have an outdoor movie night. Drive in movies can be expensive for your family, so you can set up a similar scene in your own backyard. You can set up a TV or projector that will allow for great movie viewing underneath the stars. Try here to get a reliable satellite connection that will get you all the latest movies and shows.

Enjoy the local beauty of nature

This involves leaving your backyard, but you will not have to go far or spend much money to do it. Try to enjoy the close by wonders of your area. Look for local parks, lakes and hiking trails that you and your family can take day trips too. Many will still have events going on before the summer ends that you and your family can enjoy, but just getting out of the house to spend some time in nature will be extremely refreshing before the school year starts.

Pitch a tent in your backyard

If you can’t find a good nearby campground to go to, but you want to fit in just one more camping trip with your family, you can just pitch your tent in your own backyard. You can even pretend that you house is not close by and do everything that you would do if you were in a remote campground, cooking over a fire and sleeping in your tents.
