Heating your home is crucial for you and your family’s comfort and survival. It’s sometimes hard to determine what the best boilers are and which ones you should use in your home. Having the proper boiler will prevent the amount of times that you require boiler servicing. Once you have a boiler in place there are some tips to prolong its life and ensure you’re heating your home the most efficient way possible. Let’s find out what they are…

The Energy Star Most Efficient 2015 designation recognizes the top efficient products that have been able to qualify for the Energy Star program. These outstanding oil and gas boilers represent the top of the line in energy efficient products this year. Let’s take a look at three of the greatest out there. These three models are sure to keep the amount of times you need boiler servicing from companies like ATS Gas to a minimum;

The Bosch-Greenstar-Boiler is small, super quiet, and environmentally friendly. It delivers an AFUE rating of 95% by using technology that is fuel-efficient. The Greenstar comes in various models-combi (Z.W.B.), essentially for space as well as tankless water-heating, or simply the space-heating (Z.B.R.), which may be used with their D.H.W. tanks. It generally features a 10 Year Limited /Full Lifetime Heat Exchanger and a Limited 5 Year Parts and Labor Warranty.

The Bradford White-Brute Elite-Boiler features among other things, a condensing and multi-pass stain-less steel heat-exchanger, with a well advanced modulating control system. It’s rated at 95% Efficient (AFUE). It also offers innovative design features that simplify the installation process of this Boiler, in both the new as well as existing systems of heating, with P.V.C, C.P.V.C, AL29-4C, or rigid Poly-propylene vent material.

The Burnham by US Boiler Company Alpine Series is classified as a natural or L.P gas fired condensing water boiler that offers a stain-less steel heat exchanger. It is equipped with the little known Sage2.1™-boiler control system that supports multiple-firing rates; the boiler also features an outdoor reset as well as lovely touchscreen interface.

Now that you know about some of the best boilers out there, let’s talk about some tips to ensure you are heating your home the most efficient way possible.

We are all aware that heating our home is the single main source of energy consumption that have costs that seem to be going up all the time. However, we aren’t always aware how to make the very most out of our heating. Even questions like “Should I turn my heating on and off?” seem to get various responses.

Some believe that if you turn the heat off it will take extra energy to bring the home back up to temperature after being turned off for a while. It’s clear to see why people would think this to be strange. After all, why spend all that time to heat your home, just to turn it off and lose the heat? However, if you do leave the heat on 24/7 you usually end up using more fuel. Since some heat loss will occur anyways just due to the fluctuating temperatures outside, your house is constantly working to maintain the ideal temperature regardless. This also means that if you leave the heat at your home on all the time, it will drain more energy from inefficient homes, since the heating works a lot harder to replace the heat that has since been lost.

The solution to this problem is to ensure your home is well insulated. This includes things like insulated cavity walls, a well-insulated loft, double-glazing and draught proofed doors.

We are lucky and fortunate to live in a time of thermostats. We have the ability to set different temperatures at different times of the day. You even have the capability to set a different schedule for the weekend or specific days of the week.

To be the most efficient, you can use your boiler timer and the room thermostat combined with radiator temperature controls to be the most energy efficient home on the block. Keep your boiler up to date and you will be sure to prolong its life and reduce the boiler servicing times that would normally be required.

If you believe your home is well insulated or you just want to see which of the two options is better suited for you, you can test both! Set your thermostat for one week for the temperate to come on twice a day, and the second week set the temperature and let it run all week.

Take a meter reading at the beginning and end of both weeks to properly gage the results. Of course, assuming the outside temperatures is pretty comparable. Now you will know for certain which way is best suited for you and your energy consumption.
